Dog Training Services

River Valley D.O.G.S. trainers Jake and Erica provide dog training services that specialize in basic obedience, behavior modification, puppy training and socialization. Our dog training programs will remain fluid and flexible in order to accommodate each individual client.

This is not the type of program where you send your dog off to be trained by someone else. It’s a hands-on foundational education for both the dog and the owner. You can take the training as far as you want to, but ultimately its up to you to do the work!

We’re located in Prior Lake MN, and serve the greater South Metro area. Additional charges will be added for customers outside of a 25-30 minute radius of the trainers. Drive fees are $10 for 25-30 minutes. $20 for 30-35 minutes. $50 for 35-40 minutes. Anything over 40 minutes will be discussed when signing up.  

In-Home Training
(We Come to You)

New Puppy Obedience Package: This 6-session, 6-week package is designed for 8-12 week old pups. Topics will include everything you need to know about your pup, proper handling, socialization, exposure, and basic obedience. Training sessions will be held in the home.  Clicker is included.

8-12 weeks of age is the best time to begin training your puppy. Socializing, exposure, and desensitizing should be the top priority for people who bring home an 8 week old.

The pup will begin to form lifelong habits at this age. It’s important to guide the dog properly to ensure they are well behaved with people and other dogs.

Initial In-Person Consultation (1st session): Our first session will be longer and more in depth than a normal session. Plan on 1.5-2 hours. Leash and Clicker are included.

Individual 1-hour Sessions: Individual sessions are available for any immediate issues you might be having. More sessions are available if you decide to continue your education.  Clicker is included.

Basic Obedience Package: This 5-session package is designed to meet the needs of most individuals and families seeking general obedience training and behavior modification.

The sessions are generally scheduled weekly in order to give the newly-trained behaviors time to take hold. Training sessions will be held in the home.  Clicker is included.

Advanced Leash Skills Training (Structured Walk): This is a 1-hour leash skill session. No need for you to be present! The trainer will come take your dog on a structured walk. You can use this service as a refresher, an advanced follow-up training session, and/or to give your dog enrichment and exercise while you are away. This is great for busy owners or reactive dogs who will benefit from and experienced handler to reinforce calm leash behavior.

This service is designed as a follow-up for clients who have completed RVD training sessions. Exceptions may apply for clients and dogs who have experience with leash skills basics.

*In case of inclement weather, indoor enrichment will be an option.*

Day Training
(You Come to Us)

Single Day Train Session: Single 4-hour Day Training Sessions are available for any immediate issues you are experiencing. Your dog is dropped of at our location and spends 3.5 hours with our trainers. There is a 30-60 minute consultation at the end of the session to go over the training and application.

Day Train Package: 3 weeks, 2 day/week, 4 hours/day + 1-One hour follow up in-home session.  

This 6-session package includes 5 Day Train sessions and one in-home follow-up session. Day Train sessions will be 4 hours long, and the owner will be included in the last 30-60 minutes. The follow-up session will take place in the clients home. Clients will be given guidance, literature, videos, and homework to maximize the effectiveness of the training.

Phodography (Dog Photography)

Phodography Package: 1-hour photo-shoot that includes 5 digital prints.

Getting Started - Recommended Equipment

  • Regular flat collar (Martingale style is recommended) and a light-weight 4-6 ft. leash (no retractable leashes to start)
  • Treat pouch
